Boy or Girl?

Author: Brian Slezak  |  Category: Announcements

After our second sonogram visit, the doc asked us if we wanted to know the gender. That startled us both, because we were NOT expecting to find out so quick. We did want to know the gender before birth as niether of us gets the whole “surprise” aspect of it. We’ll take planning over surprise thank you.

So although we’ve known for a week or so we’ve kept it under wraps until I could tell my father in person. Over the past weekend I went camping, and my father attends and takes care of me and my college friends with food and company. On the drive down (takes about 3.5 hours) I called my mom and gave her the news. I didn’t want her to know and have to hide it from my father. (He was already at the campsite.)

At the campsite when everyone was around I asked dad if he wanted a grandson or a granddaughter. He just responded, “Oh it doesn’t matter to me. As long as they’re healthy.” I said, “Well you’re having a grandson.” He took it a lot cooler than I thought he would at the time.

As I was leaving on Sunday, I gave my father a big hug and said I’d see him later. Suddenly his eyes well up with tears and he loses his composure. “I’m going to have a grandson! He’s going to be able to come out here, and you’ll teach him to shoot, and hunt just like I taught you! Oh man! My son.” (My dad’s a huge softy.) I got a little emotional at that point too. It was a great moment with dad.
